This is why, in brief, Democrats (and whatever few Republicans who still believe in the Republic and democracy) need to roll over the rest of the Republican opposition--and sadly enough the mainstream press, which has reverted to form with its usual "well-intentioned" (yes, those are scare quotes) trolling and gaslighting ("Oh, Joe, so many popularly supported EOs to roll back those unpopular EOs issued in bad faith by the Trump Administration. Obviously you're going too fast." That was the New York Time editorial board. Seriously?)

Republicans only understand force--and will whine and self-victimize--but force is what Democrats should exert. Democrats shouldn't fear Republican aggrievement. Instead, Republicans should fear Democrats rolling over them even more aggressively. (See under Jim Justice, West VA governor on the size of the stimulus. Talk about an opening for the Biden administration!) Democrats need to grasp that the public is not only on their side, but that Trump has handed them, ironically enough, a kind of golden ticket since many are now healthily skeptical of the press, including its most vehement advocates (insert "readers of New York Times" here).

Of course, this is a terrible thing to write. But sometimes bad intentions can have good consequences, especially when those bad intentions (Trump's goal of undercutting faith in mainstream media) can have the ironic silver lining of undercutting equally bad--through unacknowledged--intentions of that mainstream media (two-side-ism; constant moral--actually amoral--equivocation; access-driven, bad-faith spin reproduction).

Translation: Biden is in a strong position to roll over Republican opposition and all of their purely PR-driven faux olive branching and the mainstream media's bad faith advocacy of that olive branching (how did that bipartisanship=unity thing work out NY Times?).

The amazing thing is that strong leadership will likely deliver strong followership. This is forever the flaw among Democrats--scared of their own shadows on even issues with clear popular support--and, like Obama on LGBTQ issues, forever waiting for someone to hold their hands and pull them along.

What Democrats needs to also grasp is how trapped Republicans now are. Their base is slowly but steadily dwindling, leaving the most recalcitrant behind as the slow trickle of registration changes to independent grows. It will create a more rabid base, make no mistake. But Biden and the rest should not waste time placating such a party, including the 10 faux moderates who met with Biden recently. The only exception should be when this kind of kabuki theater favors Biden and the Democrats. If those moderates feel like they got played...oh, well.

Impartiality does not equal justice.

The United States' body politic has an impartiality problem, which has also led to the false equivalency indoctrination that is the foundation for political journalism.

The gyrations needed to make 9-3 = 4.5 is like playing Twister with an octopus and have one hand tied to the other. Over the course of the Trump reign, I've watched Lindsay Graham manage this feat, turning himself into a ball of slime in the process.

It's beyond comparing apples to oranges. It's equating tomatoes to oranges. Which one would you rather have in the fruit salad?
