You could make a plausible argument that the Civil Was has never truly ended but just ebbs and flows in its intensity. The war was followed by Reconstruction followed by Jim Crow followed by the Civil Rights movement followed by the GOP Southern strategy and so on to the current reaction against the first black president.

It's not an accident that John Roberts and his reactionary cohorts on the Supreme Court struck drown the 1965 Civil Rights act within a year after Obama was re-elected. That first step was the trigger for the anti-democratic judicial and legislative political violence underlying the current wave of voter suppression laws. The physical political violence is basically the street version mirroring the fascist anti-American movement that aims to crush democracy once and for all.

January 6, 2021 may be our contemporary Fort Sumter. Get ready for whatever comes next because the seditious Democracy haters are confident they have all bases covered via the courts, state legislatures, gerrymandering, and street-level action.
