John: You're too self-aware and too fundamentally good-natured to feel unalloyed relief at David Koch's death. We should all hang on those complex feelings; we'll need them.

That said: I'm relieved he's dead. The Kochs have wanted nothing less than to dismantle the United States and sell it for parts. That's not an exaggeration. They are fundamentally un-American. They're clever engineers who have repeatedly found ways to weaponize the Constitution against itself, purely for their personal gain. Clever, but the opposite of wise.

To achieve their hyper-selfish ends, they have exploited racism, class resentment, and culture wars, and nurtured everything that is toxic in American life.

It's not a stretch to say they are more responsible than any other individuals in post-War history for bringing human civilization to the brink of catastrophe.

I don't wish anyone ill. But I'm glad he's gone.
