The Republicans screwed up....seriously. They've made two mistakes.
First, because Republicans are always worked up about something, they assume and project that Democrats do the same. I think I can confidently say Democrats and liberals in general are far more focused on doing what's best for as many people as possible, not being angry or screwing people over. This mistake is compounded because they think toughness and strength is based on the "I'm ruff and tuff, and I'mma gots my gunz" mindset. Since Democrats generally don't feel the need wave weaponry around as a public spectacle, GOPers perceive Democrats as weak when in reality, we are simply quiet.
The second mistake is that WHEN Democrats finally get mad, we tend to become extremely mad. Given the violation of the People's House and that many congressional Democrats were marked for death, Democratic politicians I think are simply done evaluating Republicans as legitimate political players and by extension, the tender feelings of Republican voters. I don't think the Democrats will back down even in the face of death threats. They are serving the People, and saving the Republic come hell or high water.
The Republicans are going to reap the whirlwind and they deserve it. Never forget - GOP DELENDA EST.
I have no interest in unity until every one who breached Congress is jailed. Until every complicit policeman is punished. Until at least 147 Republicans resign from their elected office. Then I may have a very tiny interest. 81 million people are experiencing anger on fact not fairy tales.
Excellent editorial. Back in the day some Democrats (the racist ones, etc.) saw they had a real home in the Republican Party. So they became GOPers and the worst kind. Lincoln and T Roosevelt would not be pleased with this insurrectionist bunch of racists. And like Powell, Abe and TR also did some bad things and so did Truman and LBJ but they also did some good things as well too. That cannot be said about donald j t and his ardent supporters. So thanks again John.
The party that mocked public health guidance and therefore contributed to countless COVID deaths, and the party that refused to give financial help to struggling citizens until they thought it would help them keep control of the Senate has the gall to say impeachment "would be a further distraction to our nation at a time when millions of our fellow citizens are hurting because of the pandemic and the economic fallout.” I know this is the beginning of their 180-degree switch in narrative that goes with the 180-degree turn of the White House and Senate, but it still makes my blood boil. It makes me feel like rioting and smashing things--but I'm going to the gym instead.
