And then there’s this... Folks like Rich Lowry at National Review eagerly provided such gaslighting, arguing that the press was being "unhinged and dishonest" in covering Trump's speech as divisive and hateful, even though the president literally accused the left of trying "to overthrow the American Revolution."

As always, I agree with your well-articulated commentary. I would also note that for those conservatives who have not avidly embraced Trumpism, the abdication by GOP leaders of every tenet of conservative thought has led to a literal grasping of straws. When substance has been obliterated, form is all that remains. While I applaud their repudiation of Trumpism, it is tiresome to see the same tropes of 'woke culture' and 'cancel culture' being trotted out daily. Just as the focus on statues detracts from the greater substantive issue of a radical reimagining of the police force, the focus on cancel culture detracts from the horrific grappling that one's party has so easily wrapped itself firmly around the profound degradation of authoritarian rule. Collectively, we must focus on the priorities that Democratic leadership in the presidency, House and Senate must address. To obtain and maintain power, Democratic leaders must reshape the everyday reality of the majority of Americans.
