Trump will never admit to being outplayed by Turkey. He thinks he is the power broker and if he tweets enough about weilding America's strength, then, obviously, HE is the strongman. Being able to weild power and weilding it are two differnent things.

As to the Republican response, here's a link to an excellent article offering an analysis of why the Republicans see the Ukraine impeachment investigation so differently than the stunning betrayal of the Kurds: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/10/08/why-republicans-care-so-much-about-kurds-so-little-about-constitution/

FYI my husband was deployed to Turkey during Bush the Elder's Gulf War and had to return to that country to fly in humanitarian aid in Operation Provide Comfort. When I say I am sickened by Trump's abandonment of these vulnerable ALLIES, I really mean it.

I see these issues as apples and oranges. Republican outrage on one does not provide cover for the other. Watching the man who single-handedlly set in motion the destruction of our country, Mitch McConnell, stand up in the Senate to shame Trump for pulling American troops from the region is absolutely dizzying.

At this time, McConnell is using the impeachment inquiry to raise funds on social media, vowing that the Senate "firewall" with him in charge will prevent Trump from being removed from office.

There's just never any blowback to him. Always remember McConnell, not Trump, is the apex of this Republican stronghold. Until McConnell's kryptonite is uncovered and deployed, nothing Trump says or does will change the status quo.

If you know your Game of Thrones you'll understand the quote from Littlefinger: "Chaos is a ladder." McConnell has mastered Trump's brand of idiotic chaos. It's what's allowed him to build that Republican firewall higher and wider.

If only we had a dragon.
