A longer term optimistic view.

There is a good chance that some of the subpoenas, issued by the House, for documents and witnesses will make their way to the supreme court and be ruled on positively, 5 or less months before the November election. The more damaging result of new evidence and witnesses, and the greater the sham trial in the senate, the better it will be for the Dems in the November election.

Also, there is no "double jeopardy" defense w.r.t. impeachment. Assuming that the supreme court rules favorably on the House subpoenas, and a lot more damning evidence is available, this year or next (if Trump gets re-elected), we could see one (or more) additional efforts to impeach and remove Voldemort from the white house.

I thought the Republicans' performance today was spectacularly dishonest and corrupt. This is going to detonate in their face sooner than later as Trump's behavior worsens, more evidence comes out and they realize they missed their only chance to extricate themselves from their dictator.

The Republicans already live under an authoritarian leader, and they treat Trump as such. He has snatched every last drop of real power any other member of the Republican party had. They're going to the mat, and selling themselves out, to defend a man who would turn on every last one of them in 5 seconds if he thought it would benefit him in the slightest way. Instead of breaking free from Trump's hold, they've shown us how overwhelming their case of Stockholm syndrome really is.

One additional thought. Bolton's book. Lets assume he is honest and forthcoming on his conversations with Trump. If the book comes out after the November election, it will have little value w.r.t. sales. But if it comes out before, he and his publishers will make a lot more money. And, perhaps he should announce that he will testify to the House Intelligence committee just 2 weeks after the book its scheduled to be published.
