I think mandatory voting is an excellent idea. Lying and violence has no place in a religion or spirituality that advocates lovingkindness, love, truthfulness and sharing (which may need to be required by tax law). A good source for thinking about this would be the writings of Stanley Hauerwas. As always thank you John for your thoughts. I thoroughly agree with your comments about Liz Cheney and Republicans in general. If they were morally good people they would leave the GOP behind and become Independents or Democrats.
I think there is now a more that 50/50 chance the USA as we know it is broken up within the next 10 years. - God willing...peacefully.
The 65% who know better (And create the wealth) simply do not live in the same country as the 35% that are deranged. And the deranged 35% punch WAY above their weight because of the way our system is tilted toward them and their overlord powerbrokers- AND - they the MAGAt 30% is unfixable. They will never come back down to even a Cheney style of conservative.
I keep looking for a way in which we live under that same roof - but I don't see how. The coming official end of Roe V Wade will draw these lines very clearly...

I favor mandatory voting too as really the only way we will prevail in saving our democracy.
