I have been inspired by the South as brought together by The Bitter Southerner. I was raised to think of the South as monolithic and racist. The South is much more nuanced, especially in urban areas, and some small towns are led by African-Americans. There is a thriving and progressive arts movement. Change is slow but there is hope. It's maddening that the press has given such voice to the minority who seek to infect us all when no such justice was given to the minority seeking to give voice to caged immigrants or the working poor and uninsured.
