Saying the quiet part out loud...great piece, well-reasoned and necessarily explicit. How many days 'til November 3rd?

John -- I agree with almost everything you've said in this unflinching piece. But I'm not sure I agree with your last point, though I may have misunderstood. Are you advocating that growing authoritarian violence must be stopped with opposing violence? And, if so, how do we prevent anti-authoritarian violence from generating an ever-escalating response from the authoritarians in power?

Powerful piece today, John. I could practically hear you teeth grinding in frustration as you wrote it. I’m frustrated as hell, too. Thanks for all that you do.

I believe white western european wealthy men infected the Americas with racism/white male superiority beginning in 1492 and maybe even earlier. What you write in this piece is correct. I believe people have a choice. We can misbehave toward people who aren't privileged white men or we can behave with lovingkindness toward all people even and especially when something rotten in our gut and brain tries to pull us back into the racism and white superiority we were taught from the beginning. Also,I believe the use of violence is ALWAYS wrong. ALWAYS! You have to be taught to hate. You have to be diligent in remembering that what you were taught about hate was wrong. We can't go on much longer if we don't learn to resist hateful impulses.
