If not now, when. I understand Manchin's difficult position as a Democrat from a red state. May he have the courage to vote is moral convictions because in the end that's what matters.
Manchin is not our savior. He isn't going to allow ending or getting around the filibuster (and it's not just Manchin, or even just Manchin and Sinema).
Sorry, I can't quite buy into the idea that Manchin is being very tactical about all this.
Yes, he's from West Virginia, but how does letting Republicans continue to run roughshod over basically every Democratic policy *help* him? Republican voters in West Virginia *aren't* going to suddenly vote for him, and pissing off Democratic voters in West Virginia isn't going to help Manchin, either.
Also, this *is* the guy who has *also* claimed that admitting DC as a state would require a Constitutional amendment, which is just blatantly false - you'd think a senator from a state that *literally* broke off from another would be *somewhat* aware of how admitting new states works.
I'm more convinced that Manchin likes the current position he occupies - basically getting to determine what does or doesn't pass in the Senate, without having to worry about the opinion of the rest of his caucus.
