When it comes to how the lies will be receive, however, one must parse the audiences. 1) There are the conspiracy-minded who buy anything. Unless families de-program them, they can't saved. What can be done is the reach of their voices can be limited (a la de-platforming), which is kind of what you want; 2) there are "give it to the lib types," who rationalize these lies: not through conspiracy but usually faulty logic that strokes their true source of resentment--one of the many forms of racism, homophobia, chauvinism, or whatever that still has them pulling levers for dog whistlers; 3) and there is that swing group--the suburban, college-educated voter that just may have had enough. That should be the target audience of the impeachment managers, because they are not necessarily Fox News consumers, even if Republican or independent (or even Democrat). Democrats would be wise to deliver a double-barreled message. On the floor of the Senate a litany of Trump's attempted coup; in the media, how a vote for his impeachment would deliver the more popular knockout blow disallowing him from running again (https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/a-majority-of-americans-want-to-bar-trump-from-office/). Republicans still won't vote for his impeachment, although a secret vote could change that: they'd have to weigh all of them being targeted for impeachment vs. possibly none since all could claim plausible deniability. Another option is for at least 17 senators either retiring or up for 2026 re-election (there are 20 Republicans then) vote for impeachment, allowing the 6 years to reduce the Trump fever dream. McConnell really does want to put a stake thru the heart of Trump's entrapment of the party and that's the best way to do it.

One problem with the defense argument is that the former president does not consider himself the former president, so there is an inherent contradiction to the claim that you cannot impeach a former president. Maddow laid out the evidence thoroughly last week.

I am expecting the House Managers to trigger the trauma experienced by every single juror on January 6. In a courtroom, jurors who were also victims would be excluded. This is a big advantage for the managers. The effects of trauma are imprinted on human brains and cannot be repaired without treatment. Republicans are going to have a trauma response whether they know it or not. The managers may be able to use that response to overcome the barriers to Republicans voting to impeach.
