Our culture teaches selfishness. Our politics are based on "what is in MY interest" rather than "what is in the common interest". Our personal lives are similarly selfish: witness the college admissions scandals, just for starters. This goes into every aspect of our lives. Churches are now challenging the notion of the "I" church and trying to get the congregants focused on the "we" church. Nonprofits are challenged by how donors expect to be recognized and rewarded for their "generosity". Thank you for calling it out at the presidential level. Let's try to focus on what the presidential candidates, for starters, will do for "us" instead of for "me". Iowa is a good place to start.
