I think the term Teflon Don sprang out of the fact that a mean, petty man who wasn't particular smart inherited a fortune, reinvented himself on reality TV after pissing away that money and then somehow became POTUS. You write that "Trump was never brought down by things that would have brought down other presidents, then I suppose, yes, he was made of Teflon. But that perspective is contingent." To me, the Teflon moniker pre-dates the last few years.

With all his failures Trump still received 74 million votes. Poor baby, his last weeks have been stressful but he still hasn't paid a price for his actions. We may never recover from his destructive policies and overt corruption. We can never be trusted to honor our treaties. Trump was impeached twice but so what? If he is not found guilty by the Senate then we have to admit our checks and balances and system of government is an abysmal failure. We lucked out that this intellectually lazy conman was incapable of staging a proper coup.
