I'm struggling with a comment because I believe that, absent a break from Trump by high-ranking government officials, there are only 2 avenues open to citizens: voting (assisted by massive volunteering at poll locations, early mail-in voting, and coordinated litigation by election law attorneys) and mass protests. If there isn't an overwhelming win by Biden, then no other actions will matter. Far too many people still do not appreciate the historical imperatives of this election...there is far too much timidity around imagining the worst. Putin kills his adversaries, jails dissidents, shuts down criticism and eliminates civil rights. This is unquestionably our fate if we don't vote in overpowering numbers.
John, I could not agree more. I was reading about Trump's warning that he would send law enforcement to the polls to protect his power. He keeps telling us the election will be fraudulent. I believe him. However, I believe it is the GOP who will do all in their power to thwart the people from electing their actual choice. When I hear him go on and on about the election being rigged, we better know he is doing it. He always accuses Dems of what he is doing himself.
So, what are we going to do to make sure the GOP does not steal this election? We need a landslide vote, true, but to get that we need to make sure every vote is counted. I live in California, so I am fairly certain my vote will be counted. I have been a mail-in voter for so long I cannot remember when I last stood in line to cast my ballot.
All that being said, I am very afraid of what will happen no matter what the actual outcome is. Trump is priming the pump for division and chaos. I am not sure we are equipped for this.
Yes, we need to be ready. And I always remind myself that djt has never said or tweeted anything but lies. I think of that fact as sort of encouraging since he's already threatening us. So he's actually lying when he says these things. Still, we'd do well to be ready. Seems to me impeachment is still needed not only for djt but also for the vp. The senate might this time convict them. And Nancy could be potus till Biden is inaugurated.
Trump will try to steal the election; that's a given. We should definitely expect Barr concocting some garbage legalistic sounding justification for invoking emergency powers to scramble everything: vote tabulation, absentee ballots being counted, "disrupted" in-person voting because of their "voter integrity" goons, terrorist and other violence from right-wing thugs, etc.
When that happens, they will then try using DHS police resources like federal police and the Border Patrol to impose their desired outcomes. All bets are off what will happen after they start their treasonous scheme. Let's get ready for the show.....
