Having grown up in the South, I am familiar with the Death before Dishonor mentality that a lot of white Southerners have. They feel that strength and toughness are foundations of their personal identity and that fighting and inflicting death is symbolic of that strength.
From that perspective, a pesky little virus which can't be seen is simply not a threat. Besides, their personal toughness is so great that it can't harm them anyway. That's why you keep reading stories of these people dying in COVID ICU wards literally on their last breaths gasping that COVID-19 is a hoax and something else must be the cause of their eventual deaths. With that mindset, it's no wonder they're willing to kill themselves and our country to satisfy their betters who in turn see them as disposable rabble anyway.
