I think people sometimes overthink what motivates Trump and the GOP overall. I believe their objectives are very clear and explicit.

For example, I think Trump's denial is very simple - he wants to build his mega hotel in Moscow and needs to curry favor with Putin to make this happen. Remember that during the 2016 campaign, he had Michael Cohen and Felix Sater quietly trying to negotiate a deal by gifting the top floors to Putin. Trump is fixated on this project and is happy to jeopardize our national security so long as he can see his name on the tallest building in Moscow. Add in his long-term connection with Russian mob money and money laundering through his properties, then this is even more straightforward. If he needs to publicly deny any Russian threats to America to get his ultimate deal, he's fine with that.

As far as the rest of the GOP, it's the same three-part reactionary goal of Plutocracy, Theocracy, and White Supremacy. Like Trump, they don't care about the people or America's principles so long as they can entrench their authoritarian utopia. Like Nixon sabotaging the Vietnam peace talks in the 1968 campaign, and Reagan (allegedly) undermining the attempts to bring home the hostages from Iran during the 1980 campaign, it shouldn't be any surprise that the GOPers would ignore even the most aggressive cyber attack ever on our government.

I relaize I'm the darker than most around here but I believe this is quite simple: Yes, Trump looked the other way to pay off a debt. and yes Also leaving Biden on the hook is part of the plan but chaos in the next few weeks is THE PLAN.

Also if a party that represents 40% of the country's population no longer protects the country shouldn't we be logically asking if we actually have a country anymore? I am one who thinks we do not. It is reasonable to at least THINK about how a peaceful break up would work...and how many actual countries there are in this "country" .

"the people calling themselves patriots are anything but patriotic." Well said, young man. And thanks for saying it.

Someday, I really hope that we can find out exactly what's been motivating Trump's actions for the past 4+ years, especially with Russia and foreign policy in general. Without exception, his foreign policy actions have been as shady as hell.

Trump is certainly not a very complex person or personality, so I'm pretty sure that whatever it is that Putin has been dangling over his head would immediately explain his behavior in a simplistic but consistent manner. Trump is as transactional of a person as anyone who's ever walked the Earth, so he protecting Putin to protect himself, it's just the "what" that's the question, we pretty much know the "who, where, why and when..."
