It's an interesting position, but I think the reality is far worse. The GOP isn't acting out of misguided belief in the superiority of the confederacy...they are engaged in naked power grabs divorced from any ideology. In this universe, every rule, norm, or policy can be broken because it doesn't matter. The end justifies the means. Their pretense shifts by the day, but again, consistency doesn't matter because they aren't faithful to any particular belief system. It's simply about retaining power and appeasing their base. The GOP leadership has abandoned any pretext of interest in any policy, domestic or foreign. It's a total abdication of party and oath.
